A list of planned features for Runic Ages, subject to change.

The Abyss

The Abyss is a Nether-like dimension filled with flesh, eldritch horrors, aberrations, and corruptive energy. It serves as the interdimensional void between realms and is theorized to either be an unstable rift caused by powerful cosmic forces or a wound within reality itself.

  • The Abyss can be reached via a low to medium random chance upon using any teleport spell or later in progression through dedicated player-made teleport tablets.
  • Hostile eldritch beings such as Abyssal Leeches, Abyssal Walkers, and Abyssal Guardians roam this dimension. These mobs commonly drop Rune Essence, uncommonly drop Runecrafting altar talismans, and rarely drop Abyssal Organs, which can be used to craft pouches that warp physical space to hold more Rune Essence.
  • Abyssal mobs are powerful, boasting high defense and magic attacks, and can hit hard and rapidly. They are weak to ranged weapons, earth spells, or crush weapons like maces.
  • Scattered throughout the Abyss are various ruined portal altars that, once repaired, allow teleportation to Runecrafting altars. Repairing these altars requires crafting Rune Essence Marble by crushing Rune Essence, mixing it with plaster and stone, and then using a hammer and chisel (hammer in offhand, chisel in mainhand) to complete the repair.
  • After repairs, players must obtain a Gatestone Talisman from Abyssal mobs. This talisman must first be used on the corresponding altar in the overworld or another dimension (such as the Cosmic Altar in Zanaris) before activating the Abyssal altar.

Zanaris

A mystical dimension that serves as the moon of Gielinor, inhabited by fairies. Zanaris can be accessed using a Dramen Staff, either by right-clicking fairy rings or entering green huts in swamp biomes. The laws of nature behave strangely in Zanaris; talking animals and crops that thrive without sunlight are common.

Unique biomes include:

  • Zanaris Woods: A sea-green conifer forest filled with dense trees.
  • Zanaris Clearing: A grove biome containing fairy villages and Cosmic Altars.
  • Mushroom Grove: A glowing mushroom-filled version of the clearing, home to Slayer monsters called Mutated Zygomites.
  • Crystal Cave: A biome containing crystal formations and Crystal Crab Slayer mobs.
  • Shady Undergrove: A root-filled cave biome where the Tanglefoot Slayer mob lurks, only harmable with farming equipment.

Cosmic Altars only generate in Zanaris, requiring players to visit the dimension for crafting Cosmic Runes. Puro-Puro portals may appear, leading to an instanced fenced wheat field where players can catch implings with bug nets and jars.

Special features include:

  • Woodcutting trees that yield pale-brown logs and planks.
  • Fairy villages where Dragon equipment can be purchased.
  • A stone statue of a chicken that teleports players to an Evil Chicken boss instance when raw chicken is used on it.

Slayer (Skill)

A combat-focused skill requiring specialized equipment to defeat dangerous monsters.

  • Villagers with the Slayer Master occupation give out Slayer tasks in exchange for Slayer Points, which can be used to purchase special gear.

Slayer Mobs include:

  • Basilisks and Cockatrices, requiring Mirror Shields to prevent petrification.
  • Gargoyles, which require a Sledgehammer for the killing blow.

Agility (Skill)

Modifies sprinting mechanics, linking it to an Agility Skill and Run Energy Meter instead of hunger.

  • Training Agility: Players can build portable endurance utilities (jump ropes, hurdle fences) or complete large-scale Agility Courses.
  • Higher agility levels increase run energy regeneration speed.
  • Run Energy regenerates when idle or resting and is consumed at a rate of ~1 per 20 ticks while sprinting.

Potions:

  • Energy Potion: Restores 10% of run energy per dose.
  • Stamina Potion: Restores 20% of run energy and reduces run energy consumption by 70% for 2 minutes.

Sailing (Skill)

A new skill centered around ship ownership, exploration, and navigation.

  • Ship Ownership & Upgrades: Players can enhance their ships with better sails, hulls, and specialized tools.
  • Exploration & Charting: Discovering and charting new locations grants experience and unique rewards.

Primary Activities:

  • Sailing Navigation: Players adjust sails for optimal speed; NPC crewmates can assist at higher levels.
  • Shipwreck Salvaging: Recover valuable materials and artifacts from shipwrecks.
  • Port Tasks: Transport goods, protect trade routes, or combat pirates and sea monsters.

New Content:

  • Sailing Guild
  • Oceanic Bosses: Sharhai, Roqar the Thunderbird.
  • New Slayer Mob: Gryphon.
  • Oceanic Villagers: Sea Turtle Tribes.

Resources:

  • Wood Types: Larch, Cedar, Rosewood.
  • Corals: Elkhorn Coral, Pillar Coral, Umbral Coral.
  • Fish: Haddock, Blue Tang, Sunfish.
  • Gemstones & Minerals: Lead, Agate, Garnet, Aquamarine, Cobalt.

Crystal Crabs

Slayer mobs exclusive to the Crystal Cave biome in Zanaris, defeated using biome-interactive mechanics.

Combat Mechanics:

  • Players must activate crystal blocks that change color and fire orb projectiles.
  • Orb-shots make crabs vulnerable to melee, magic, or ranged based on the color.
  • Once chipped, crabs enter a Soft-Shelled State, taking 1.5x damage.

Special Weapons:

  • Crystal Maul: A stab/crushing hybrid hammer that speeds up crystal chipping and applies 1.5x damage.
  • Crystal-Tipped Arrows: Highly effective due to sharp penetration.
  • Crystal Staff: Fires orbs and can create an AoE blast that changes crab colors in a 4x4 radius.

Nature Altars

Special Runecrafting altars that spawn in jungle biomes, used to craft Nature Runes. Talismans are dropped by Slimes, Spiders, Skeletons, and Zombies in order of decreasing rarity.

New Spells

  • Village Teleport: Instantly teleports the player to their marked village.
  • Low-Alchemy & High-Alchemy: Converts items into gold coins (gp).

Coin Pouch

A dedicated slot for gold coins (gp) with infinite stacking or an optional pouch item that can be configured to drop on death.

Urns

Special craftable pottery used to gain bonus XP in various skills.

  • Urns are filled by accumulating XP in the corresponding skill.
  • Once full, they can be right-clicked to send off, granting a chunk of bonus XP.
